Okay, so Ford is being quite coy with this, its latest reveal of the 2010 Mustang’s sheetmetal. In this shot we see a crease on the Mustang’s powerdome, lending its hood more flair than the 2008 Ford Mustang that sports three character lines running the length of the hood from lip to cowl.
The Mustang is the ponycar that started it all back in 1964, and even if musclecar sales aren’t exactly overwhelming in this market, halo cars like the Mustang are very important for manufacturers. Or their self-esteem, anyway. The 2010 Mustang will mark evolutionary changes for the vehicle, but rumors of a 5.0-liter V-8 and possible fitment of Ford’s new EcoBoost turbocharged V-6 (upcoming Lincoln MKS) abound. We believe the new Mustang will stick with a live rear axle for cost reasons, a possible demerit next to Dodge’s Challenger and the 2010 Chevy Camaro, which sport independent rear suspensions.
Tech details of the new ‘Stang will soon be confirmed soon as we cover this vehicle’s release in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Stay tuned here for continued updates, and visit the official 2010 Mustang site where you can view teasers, vote for your favorite photo story, and bask in ponycar puissance.–Colin Mathews
