Hybrid shoppers take note: Honda’s highly-anticipated CR-Z will be the cheapest hybrid vehicle available on the market.
According to a Honda press release: “The all-new 2011 Honda CR-Z sport hybrid coupe is set to debut at dealers on August 24, 2010, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) starting at $19,200, plus a destination and handling charge of $750…” Industry analysts had predicted that the CR-Z would be priced just over $20K.
Of course, the CR-Z’s price will increase by trim and with addition of optional features. Autoblog breaks it down: “The CR-Z is available in three trim levels, with the base price of the six-speed manual-equipped model coming in at $19,200 (plus a D&D charge of $750). Option up for the EX and a 360-watt stereo, Bluetooth integration and a leather wrapped wheel are yours for the taking for $20,760. Tack on the navigation system (‘Navi’ in Honda parlance) and the price swells to $22,560.” And for an additional $650, the EX with navigation can even come equipped with an automatic transmission.
Auto critics are happy with the 2011 Honda CR-Z’s sub-$20K base price. Car and Driver writes, “Priced as such, the sporty, two-seat CR-Z is about on par with Honda’s five-door Insight, but a couple of grand cheaper than the segment-leading Toyota Prius hybrid. It’s also a lot more fun to drive than either.” Meanwhile, Cars.com notes that the CR-Z is now “the cheapest hybrid available.”
When equipped with a manual transmission, the CR-Z is expected to net an EPA-estimated city/highway fuel economy of 31/37 mpg. With an automatic Continuously Variable Transmission, it should make 35/39 mpg.
