Although the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show was littered with new car debuts, car reviewers say few were as impressive as the 2011 Hyundai Elantra. Boasting impressive fuel economy, a low base price and a larger cabin than its rivals, there is a lot to like about the latest Hyundai.

Starting with its interior space, Automobile Magazine says that the “Front row in the Elantra is definitely roomy enough; Hyundai states the Elantra qualifies as a midsize vehicle according to the EPA.” For a vehicle priced in the small car class, this is a rare find.

But if you thought that the interior would be compromised with shoddy materials, think again. “The Elantra’s interior fit-and-finish and, especially, design look more appropriate in a premium or luxury vehicle than a compact,” writes Motor Trend. On top of this, Motor Trend says, “The interior is also the source of Hyundai’s first surprise at the show: for the first time in the segment, heated rear seats are now available.” Can you say checkmate, Ford Fiesta?

Now all of this may sound good, but it doesn’t matter if the price isn’t right. Well, Hyundai’s got your back there, too. KickingTires reports, “The basic GLS Standard trim is at the bottom of the lineup and starts at $14,830, not including a $720 destination charge. The line tops out with the Elantra Premium at $21,980.”

Autoblog says, “This represents a $645 price increase versus the 2010 Elantra, though the 2011 model is $1,445 cheaper than a base Chevrolet Cruze and $1,440 less than a base 2012 Ford Focus – the Hyundai’s two main competitors.”

If you’re shopping small cars and you’re looking for a great new car, it may be worth waiting for. However, if you can’t bear the wait and need a car immediately, you should take a look at the Chevrolet Cruze and Ford Fiesta. Just keep in mind what you’ll be missing out on by not being patient.

Expect the 2011 Hyundai Elantra to reach showrooms before the year’s end.
