Alfa release frugal new 159 Alfa Romeo expands 159 range with efficient new 136bhp diesel, plus uprated interior trim and equipment across the line-up.

It’s business time at Alfa! In a bid to capture a bigger slice of the company car market, the Italian maker has introduced a new 136bhp diesel engine to its 159 line-up, which emits only 134g/km CO2 and returns a combined 55.4mpg.

Performance should still be brisk however, as the 2.0-litre JTDM unit offers an impressive 350Nm of torque from just 1,750rpm, with 0-62mph despatched in just 9.9 seconds.

There are three revised trims to choose from, however the entry ‘Turismo’ is already very generously equipped, with 16-inch alloys, cruise and climate control and Bluetooth all included as standard.

The comfort-oriented ‘Lusso’ adds leather seats, sports dials, black aluminium centre console and steering wheel inserts, rear parking sensors and 17 inch multispoke alloy wheels, while the sportier Ti version comes with 19-inch wheels, lowered suspension, red painted brake calipers and black leather and alcantara sports seats as well as a leather sports steering wheel and satin effect wing mirrors. Carbon fibre inserts are available as an option.

Available to order now, prices start at £22,500 for the Turismo saloon and rise to £26,900 for the fully loaded Ti Sportwagon estate.
