Audi launches new 99g/km A1 German firm reveals eco-friendly A1 that’s free from Road Tax and the London Congestion Charge

Audi has launched an eco-friendly version of its A1 supermini this week, using a revised version of its 1.6-litre TDI engine, to push CO2 emissions below the magic 100g/km barrier for the first time.

Boasting 104bhp and paired with a taller five-speed manual gearbox, the 1.6-litre diesel has start/stop and an improved fuelling system that mean just 99g/km of C02 from the exhaust and a combined consumption figure of just 74.3mpg, bettering the previous version by around 4mpg.

Performance remains competitive though, with the benchmark 0-62mph sprint dealt with in just 10.5 seconds and on to a 118mph top speed.

Standard equipment is as generous as ever, with alloy wheels, air-con and a CD player all included, and the frugal new version is available in all three trim levels, SE, Sport and the racier S-Line.

The biggest benefits of the eco-tweaks are that the A1 now qualifies for exemption from London’s daily congestion charge and from Road Tax from two years under the current regulations.

Prices remain unchanged, and start from £14,480 for the SE, rising to £17,865 for the S Line.
