BMW M3 CSL returns Lightweight M3 saloon concept, based loosely around the GTS coupe points the way towards a CSL successor.
BMW’s M-division is working overtime! At a private event last week, the German firm unveiled the new M5 Concept and the wacky M3 Pickup, but lurking in the background was another model of serious interest to performance car fans.
Called the M3 GTS Sedan Concept, it previews a lighter, faster and sharper version of the M3 saloon – likely to be positioned between the standard M3 and the £117,000 GTS Coupe, traditionally a ground occupied by the M3 CSL.
Power output is yet to be confirmed, but its engine is rumoured to be tuned somewhere between the 444bhp GTS and the 414bhp standard car. Whether it will use the 4.0-litre V8 or the bored-out 4.4-litre version from the GTS is unclear.
Bigger brakes, firmer suspension, a lighter exhaust and modified bodywork is all borrowed from the GTS, but the wild rear wing has been swapped for a more subtle boot lip spoiler.
There’s no confirmation on whether this concept will make production. According to a spokesman for the brand, it’ll be a purely financial decision taking into account the fact that it sells many more M3 coupes than saloons.
