Auto news; British Motor Show faces the axe Could Britain's biannual Motor Show be the credit crunches next victim?
The British Motor Show could be axed next year, in a bid to cut costs across the industry.
Last year’s expo, held at the ExCel centre in London’s Docklands, was plagued with no-shows, including big names such as BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, and Rolls Royce. But with manufacturers’ minds even more focused on their wallets than ever before, the industry has now been forced to rethink the event altogether.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said it may decide to delay the event by one year. “Moving the motor show to the summer of 2011 is one option we’re considering,†its spokeswoman admitted.
One inside source told us organisers were also concerned about the expo’s current biennial schedule clashing with the 2012 Olympics.
