Cadillac Releases Black Diamond CTS-V

If you have about $70,000 to spend, Cadillac has released its latest version of the CTS-V: the Black Diamond.
“Available in coupe, sedan, or wagon form, these special CTS-Vs earn the Black Diamond Edition designation by using a special paint pigment called SpectraFlair Bright Silver pigment,” Motor Trend elaborates. “Designed by JDSU, the pigment is mixed with the dark tri-coat Dupont paint to enhance the shine of one of the most popular automotive paint colors in the industry. Cadillac will be using the first application of this JDSU pigment.”
Why the special paint? In a GM press release, John Brook, Custom Color Solutions product manager at JDSU states, “Auto makers and consumers are looking to differentiate the color black, an ubiquitous color in automotive. Black Diamond offers the discerning Cadillac customer a special option color that stands out and remains true to their sense of luxury and style.”
The Black Diamond costs nearly $5,000 more than base CTS-V sedan, so if you’re apprehensive about spending five grand on fancy paint, don’t worry, more comes with it. “The paint is joined by a set of Satin Graphite 19-inch wheels and yellow Brembo brake calipers outside,” says Autoblog. “Slide yourself indoors and meet an interior that boasts microfiber suede Recaro seats and Midnight Sapele wood accents littered throughout the cabin. GM says that the whole package is meant to invoke images of a well-tailored tuxedo.”
So far, reviewers haven’t said if these upgrades are worth $70k. The Black Diamond hits the market in March, and we’ll let you know what automotive journalists think when they check out the tri-coat paint, wheels and wood accents for themselves.
