Mazda’s CX-5 caught testing Cold weather testing of production version of Minagi concept steps up a gear.
Mazda is flat out in preparation for the Frankfurt Motor Show, where its CX-5 small crossover will makes its global debut. Set to go head-to-head with the BMW X1 and Audi Q5, the CX-5 is the production version of the Minagi concept which bowed at Geneva.

Spied wearing a shortened version of the CX-7’s bodywork, the CX-5 will slot into the Mazda range beneath the mid-size CX-7 and larger CX-9, which is sold in the US and Russia. 

It will be the first production Mazda to feature the firm’s new Kodo – Soul of Motion design language, and the firm’s new Skyactiv lightweight strategy and efficient engine and transmission range.

Using these technologies, the firm claims to have shed 14 per cent of weight from the chassis and eight per cent from the body. It’s also increased fuel economy, so much so that the forthcoming petrol motor is said to be 15 per cent more efficient than the current 2.2-litre diesel unit, while the oil-burner claims a 20 per cent improvement.

The CX-5 should arrive in the UK in early 2012, and will be priced from around £22,000.

Mazda Takuya special editions for Mazda2, Mazda3 and Mazda6 Mazda announces top spec Takuya Mazda2, Mazda3 and Mazda6 models on sale from today.
Mazda has announced the return of its top spec Takuya special editions, which were first offered for a short time in 2010. The top-spec trim level will be available on Mazda2, Mazda3 and Mazda6 models, with total production capped at 3,894 units.

Priced from £11,940, the Mazda2 1.3-litre five-door Takuya is based on the Tamura model, but features fog lights, rear electric windows, climate-control, and a Parrot Bluetooth hands-free kit. Mazda claims that this represents a £110 saving over the model it’s based on. 

The Mazda3 Takuya is based on the TS 1.6-litre petrol model, but adds 17-inch alloy wheels, front fog and LED rear lights, climate control, and an integrated Bluetooth system, amongst other things. The Mazda3 Takuya starts at £16,695 –  £1,145 more than the TS model.

The Mazda6 Takuya gives buyers the most choice, as it’s available as either a 2.0-litre or 2.2-litre diesel five-door, or as an estate with the larger diesel engine.  

For £1,050 more than the TS models, all three variants benefit from 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, half-leather heated seats, climate control and a six-disc CD changer. All cars are on sale now.

Receiving an extensive overhaul for 2012, the Mazda5 minivan is here to prove that not all minivans come standard with a blocky shape and bland styling. Even better, it’s not going to hurt your wallet. Automobile writes that “the revisions apparently don’t carry a significant price hike.&rdquo.

“Priced a few hundred above the outgoing model, the redesigned 2012 Mazda5 will start at $19,990, including destination charges,” writes Consumer Reports. “The new 5 will be offered in three trims—Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.” Compared to other base trims from reviewer favorites, the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey, you’re talking about differences of nearly $5,400 and nearly $8,700, respectively.

If the base 2012 Mazda5 doesn’t have enough goodies for you, the better equipped Touring and Grand Touring trims begin pricing at $21,990 and $24,670, respectively. This still represents savings over the Sienna and Odyssey.

Standard on the Mazda5 will be a “new 157-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated either to a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. There was no word on gas mileage, but the old 2.3-liter achieved 21/27 mpg city/highway with the automatic transmission,” reports KickingTires.

If you’re shopping for a new minivan, this pricing announcement can provide useful if you’re looking to save some greenbacks. If having an all-new vehicle isn’t your primary concern, you can take this new information and see if a Mazda dealership wants to negotiate a more aggressive deal on a 2010 Mazda5.

Expect the 2012 Mazda5 to hit showrooms in the first quarter of 2011.

Facelifted Mazda2 revealed Paris debut for revised, leaner, greener Mazda supermini.
Meet the new-look Mazda2. The Japanese firm will pull the wraps off its tweaked supermini at the Paris show next month. Full details will be announced when the car emerges from beneath its dustsheet, but the newcomer will feature a host of changes to keep it up to speed with the Ford Fiesta and new Suzuki Swift.

The most obvious difference is the new nose, which features the signature Mazda smiley face that debuted on the latest Mazda3 and Mazda5. The firm has also turned its attention to improving the quality of the interior.

The more major alterations have taken place underneath. The firm promises a fully Euro V-compliant engine line-up, tweaks to the chassis to improve ride comfort and a new automatic gearbox option.

The new Mazda2 will debut at Paris alongside the new Mazda5, which debuts with the firm’s new 113bhp 1.6-litre diesel engine. The unit replaces the 2.0-litre diesel, and returns 54.3mpg, and cuts carbon dioxide emissions by 15 per cent. The new diesel engine will also be shown in the Mazda3
