Daily Auto News Cheapest Cars to Insure Announced
Daily Auto News

Looking for a car that’s cheap to insure? Maybe you shouldn’t be looking at a car at all.
USA Today reports, “The cheapest car to insure isn’t a car, it’s a work van, the Ford E350 Econoline. The second-cheapest car to insure isn’t a car either, it’s a small SUV, the Mercury Mariner. Next? Chevrolet Traverse.”
Kicking Tires explains why trucks, vans and SUVs dominate the list. “When involved in a crash, some vehicles are simply less costly to fix, and the affordability of those fixes is a strong factor in how much it will cost to insure a vehicle. Trucks and SUVs tend to have an edge, according to a government report that tallies losses of insured vehicles for 2007-2009.”
Don’t want to drive something huge? Then check out the only car that made the list. Kicking Tires says, “The only car to make the list was the Smart Fortwo, which was 52% cheaper to insure than average.”
The vehicles that made the list are below, along with how much cheaper than average they are to insure.
Ford Escape, 50%
Jeep Wrangler, 53%
Smart Fortwo convertible, 52%
GMC Acadia, 47%
Saturn Outlook, 46%
Ram 1500, 45%
Ford F-150 Supercab 44%
Kia Sorento, 44%
