In the world of eco cars, Chrysler is behind. Chevrolet has the Volt; Nissan has the Leaf; and Toyota has its iconic Prius. But Chrysler won’t be behind for much longer – the automaker will introduce the Chrysler 300 Hybrid within the next few years.

Hybrids have been a mixed bag at Chrysler,” says Autoblog, “but a new report from Automotive News indicates that a gasoline-electric drivetrain is back on the table for the Pentastar automaker.”

Chrysler hasn’t issued a press release stating the 300 will soon join the hybrid ranks, so the industry doesn’t know much yet. “Few details about the flagship hybrid sedan are known,” Left Lane News reports, “but Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne let it slip last week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit that the automaker’s plans include such a vehicle.”

According to egmCarTech, Marchionne stated that the Chrysler 300 hybrid will have an eight-speed automatic transmission and will debut in 2013.

Pricing information hasn’t been released, but with the gasoline 300 starting close to $30,000, expect the 300 hybrid to cost more than $40k.
