Listen up, kids. You want to talk mom and dad into a Chrysler. Got that? A Chrysler.
It’s the only one with Spongebob.
Edmunds Inside Line reports, “Chrysler said it will roll out a live mobile TV option starting in late December that will be available on several 2008-’10 models with factory DVD entertainment systems.” The TV service will be available on the Chrysler Town & Country, Jeep Commander, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Grand Caravan, Dodge Journey, Dodge Nitro, and the Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500.
The service, Kicking Tires reports, will include “20 channels, with offerings like CBS Mobile, CNBC, Comedy Central, FOX News, MSNBC, MTV, NBC 2Go and Nickelodeon.” It can be ordered on new cars, or installed on “certain 2008-2010 vehicles that have already been purchased, but you’ll have to have the specific Mopar headrest or seat-top DVD entertainment systems installed first.” Chrysler will charge $629 for the equipment, which includes one year of service, but subscription fees for service after the first year haven’t been announced, and dealers can set their own installation prices.
It won’t work everywhere. Edmunds notes, “The service won’t be available in some rural areas.” It will, however, function in “more than 100 major markets,” and along some highly-travelled highway corridors.
