Chrysler to Introduce Manly Minivan

As automakers battle for market share in the popular muscle car and small car segments, an unlikely duel has emerged between minivans. Toyota has launched a popular “Swagger Wagon” campaign to position its Sienna as a cool, more-modern take on the minivan. Now, there are reports that Dodge is exploring ways in which to make its Grand Caravan manlier.
The “man van,” as it’s commonly referred to among Dodge insiders, may hit dealer lots within the next few months. While it’s unlikely to feature a HEMI (How cool would that be?), The Wall Street Journal reports, “The vehicle will feature a slightly sportier look on the outside, possibly finished off with a black-and-gray interior trimmed with hot-colored stitching on the seats and steering wheel.” According to autoevolution, Dodge dealers are spreading rumors that “the Grand Caravan variant will borrow much of its looks from the Grand Caravan R/T concept, shown at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).”
Otherwise, details are scarce.
“This news comes on the heels of two recently introduced minivans which have highlighted family-friendliness as major selling points,” writes Automobile Magazine. “Honda’s recently introduced 2011 Odyssey features 15 cupholders and an integrated trash bag among its amenities for families, and Toyota is marketing its new 2011 Sienna with a series of ‘Mommy Like’ commercials.”
