If you thought owning a Porsche 911 GT2 made you a badass, think again. Porsche is planning to unveil a much more capable machine, the GT2 RS. And though the auto press has yet to test drive it, word about its specs is spreading like wildfire.
“The 3,020-pound GT2 RS gets 620 twin-turbocharged horses from its 3.6-liter engine, making it the most powerful Porsche you can legally put on the roads,” says Autoblog. “That’s 90 more horses pushing 154 pounds less weight than in the previous version…”
Motor Trend adds, “Porsche’s surgeons found weight to be saved in the hood, a carbon-fiber piece now, and the even wider but still lighter single-lug wheels. Careful sculpting of the front and rear spoilers netted extra downforce and all together the modifications even improved fuel economy by 5 percent.”
The GT2 RS’ underpinnings are upgraded too. Edmunds explains: “The GT2 RS gets some additional hardware improvements, including wider light-alloy wheels and new tires (245/35ZR19 in front and 325/30ZR19 in the rear), composite ceramic brakes, adaptive suspension management, specific stabilizer bars and engine mounts, plus a recalibrated stability management system that enables the driver to individually switch off stability- and traction-control functions.”
Together, these exterior and mechanical modifications make the Porsche 911 GT2 RS a force to reckon with. “Porsche claims 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds (0.2 second faster than the 911 GT2), 0 to 124 mph in 9.8 seconds and 0 to 186 mph in 28.9 seconds,” reports Autoweek. “Top speed is 205 mph at redline in sixth gear.”
Want one? You better be prepared to act fast and pony up lots of dough. Only 500 models of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS will be produced. Though it will go on sale in October, Porsche will likely take orders before then. Expect the GT2 RS to carry a price tag of $245,000.
