Economy boost for Hyundai i20

Economy boost for Hyundai i20 Subtle tweaks improve popular supermini’s fuel efficiency across the range.
The i20 is getting greener thanks a series of eco-tweaks designed to boost fuel efficiency.
Improvements include an undercar spoiler which directs air around the wheels, and the adoption of low friction oil for the engine. Hyundai has also added a gearchange indicator and an on-demand alternator management system.
The changes apply to all models, with the best-selling 1.2-litre petrol model now costing just £30 to tax as its emissions drop by 5g/km to 119g/km. Â
But the biggest improvement has been made with the more powerful 1.4-litre petrol engine. Carbon dioxide emissions drop 13g/km to just 129g/km, which also equates to a useful two VED tax band drop. Fuel economy also improves by 4.3mpg, to 53.7mpg.
The 1.4-litre diesel is available in 74bhp and 89bhp versions, and now has a six-speed gearbox which improves fuel economy by 7.2%.
To compliment the technical changes, the dashboard lighting is now blue to bring the car in line with other Hyundai’s whilst Bluetooth connectivity with voice-recognition comes standard on all but the base Classic model. Prices start at £9,520.
