Zero to sixty-two in three-point-three-five seconds..
Consider this for a moment: it will probably take you longer to read this sentence than it takes the Ferrari 599 GTO to go from dead stopped to highway speed. It’s faster than a Porsche 911 GT3. It’s faster than the previous fastest Ferrari, the Enzo. It’s faster than almost anything else street legal (though we’d pay a lot to see it lined up next to a Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce.) It’s faster than lust.
Autoblog reports, “Ferrari has officially taken the wraps off its new performance benchmark, the 599 GTO, ahead of the car’s official debut later this month at the Beijing Motor Show.” The GTO carries a 6.0-liter V12 making 661 horsepower, but weighs in at a scant 3,295 pounds, giving it a top speed “in excess of 208 mph.”
But it’s not all about power. Motor Authority explains, “Ferrari’s engineers worked to ensure that the handling of the car would remain stable even at the limit.” That meant developing a new magnetic ride suspension, which works together with a traction control system taken directly from Ferrari’s formula one race cars. “This makes the car extremely responsive to driver inputs–thanks in part to the adoption of a very direct steering ratio–but also very stable under braking, sharper on turn-in, more precise in cornering and quicker out of corners.”
Outside, Jalopnik says, “the 599 GTO is visually aggressive…it looks sorta like a Viper SRT10 mixed with hot sex and, err…what’s the word..ah, yes, style.”
Inside, you’ll find little more than a seat and a steering wheel with F1-style paddle shifters. Everything else is gone, in order to save weight. No radio. No navigation. “You should know the way to your local track and the V12 will provide the soundtrack,” The U.K.’s Car notes.
Got your checkbook out yet? Put it away. Autoblog reports, “As the new flagship in Ferrari’s range, the 599 GTO is reported to fetch a price tag approaching £300,000 overseas (equivalent to nearly $460k). Only 599 examples will be offered.”
