Ford recalled 144,000 F-150 trucks in February for airbag issues, but now the recall is expanding – a lot. “The government… has urged Ford to recall 1.3 million F-150s from the 2004-2006 model years, citing 98 injuries from air bags deploying accidentally,” says MSNBC. “The recall is being closely watched because Ford’s F-Series pickup truck is the best-selling vehicle in America.&rdquo.

And unfortunately, the F-150 is no longer the only vehicle affected. “The recall announced Thursday includes 16,000 2006 Lincoln Mark LT pickups,” adds the Detroit News. “Ford is also recalling 89,000 pickups in Canada and 47,000 in Mexico.”

Crossed wires are to blame for the airbag issues in Ford’s popular full size pickup. “If the clockspring jumper wire comes in contact with the driver side frontal air bag lower horn plate, the wire insulation may become chafed, creating a potential for a short circuit,” reports NHTSA. “If this occurs the air bag warning lamp may illuminate indicating that service is required.”

Owners initially affected by the recall should have been notified by Ford last month, but now that the recall has expanded, newly-affected vehicles will be called in for service around May 9, 2011.
