Daily Auto News Ford Offers to Boost Value of Trade-in for Those Buying New Trucks

If you need a new pickup but are worried your old one won’t fetch much as a trade-in, Ford has a unique new incentive that might help you..
Left Lane News reports, “Ford’s redesigned 2009 F-150 pickup will launch soon into a tough pickup market with a unique trade-in rebate. Prospective buyers who are current pickup owners can choose from a $2,000 “bonus” added to the value of their trade-in or they can take advantage of 6.9 percent financing – not especially low by any means, but likely a sign of things to come in the industry” as the credit market tightens.
Jalopnik explains, “The idea is to lend a helping hand to truck guys stuck with crappy resale value in a market with decreased demand for big ol’ trucks. Of course, this doesn’t at all help the people stuck with a truck who want to downsize to something smaller.”
The Wall Street Journal notes, “The unusual incentives — significantly higher than those on the last F-150 model launched five years ago — come as Ford is introducing its truck this month against the new Dodge Ram. The Ram has a current incentive of $1,000 in cash for all consumers and up to $4,000 in incentives from individual dealers.” It’s unusual, historically, for automakers to offer heavy incentives on a newly redesigned model. But the move “shows how weakened consumer demand has become since gasoline prices spiked over the summer to more than $4 a gallon.”
Tough times for automakers, though, have led to some great buying opportunities for consumers. Research the best car deals for October to take advantage while you can.
