Daily Auto News Garmin Decks Out BMW, nuvi Style

Garmin is boosting its line of BMW Portable Navigation Systems to include the Portable Navigation System Plus and the Portable Navigation System Pro.
Really, this is fancy language for the Garmin nuvi 880 and Garmin nuvi 760, respectively, which fare well in GPS reviews for their easy-o-use interface and abundant convenience features.
The new systems are already available in BMW dealerships, and can be specially fitted for mounting in the BMW 1-Series, BMW 3-Series, and BMW X3, as long as those models were manufactured after September 2007. According to Navigadget, “The nice thing is of course the hidden wiring and no suction cup to provide a neat, highly integrated experience.”
One of the nuvi 880′s highlighted features, now carried over to the “Pro,” is voice command, but it also features Bluetooth connectivity, an FM transmitter and MP3 connectivity. MSN Direct real-time traffic reports are also offered. The “Plus” model is slightly less feature-laden, but does offer real-time traffic updates. Overall, both devices should definitely make you think twice about the disastrous iDrive.
Ubergizmo notes, “These models will also function with the stated BMW’s sound system, allowing to mute all entertainment audio for a moment so that the driver is able to hear those navigation commands clearly.”
The devices are part of Garmin GPS’ five-year partnership with BMW, which also includes specially marketed Garmin zumo and StreetPilots for BMW motorbikes. According to Twice, BMW will determine the pricing for the “Pro” and “Plus,” but those interested should note the Garmin nuvi 760 has a $499.99 list price, while the nuvi 880′s list price is $799.99.
