Car collectors break out your checkbooks for a once-in-a-lifetime buy — James Bond’s 1964 Aston Martin DB5.
Reuters reports, “James Bond’s 1964 Aston Martin DB5, dubbed by auto auctioneers RM Auctions on Tuesday as the ‘world’s most famous car,’ will go under the hammer in London in October and is expected to fetch over $5 million.”
And, believe it or not, Bond’s ride still features all of the same villain-busting gadgets and weaponry employed by 007 in “Goldfinger.” According to The Sun, “They include front-mounted .30 calibre Browning machineguns powered by an oxy/propane system in the boot, battering rams on the bumpers, wheel-mounted tyre slashers, retractable bullet-proof screen and oil slick sprayer.” Everything works too. Well, expect for the machine guns and seat ejector. But the license plates revolve.
While all Aston Martins are considered rare and exotic, this particular model is literally one of a kind. Cnet writes: “Known by its original U.K. registration number of FMP 7B, the 1964 Aston Martin is the only one remaining of the original two DB5s driven by Sean Connery in the Bond films ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Thunderball,’ according to RM.”
Bond’s DB5 is set to fetch a hefty price, but all the money raised will go to a good cause. Bloomberg reports, “Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Jerry Lee Foundation, a charity dedicated to solving social problems associated with poverty, particularly through crime prevention.”
