It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of auto manufacturer recovery in the U.S. and automakers didn’t know whether to be happy or sad with June 2010 sales results.

While automakers fear last month’s sales results show a slowing economic recovery due to the worst selling pace in three months, the bottom line is sales in June 2010 greatly surpassed sales in June 2009.

The Detroit News believes that, “Several indicators show a slowing down U.S. economy, such as the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index, signaled a loss of momentum, while swings on Wall Street have interrupted a long rise in the stock market. Data showed that demand for existing homes weakened in May, and jobless claims rose unexpectedly last week.”

Despite this General Motors’, “four core brands [Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, Cadillac] posted a 36% increase [over last year],” says USA Today. They added that June, “was GM’s fourth consecutive month of year-over-year increases of more than 20%.”

Part of GM’s sales gain was due to light truck sales which, “20.1 percent, more than twice as fast as cars, which were up 9.4 percent,” and, “boosted their share of the market to 48.8 percent in June from 46.5 percent last June,” writes the Detroit News.

Porsche saw an increase in sales by 137.4% compared to June 2009, reports the Detroit Free Press.

While Ford watched sales fall 15% compared to May 2010, their “sales were up 15% compared with last June,” writes USA Today.

Due to the sales stall, right now may be the best time to find the best deal on a new car. Check out the U.S. News rankings of this year’s best cars as well as this month’s best car deals
