Auto news; New Electric MINI revealed – MINI E A new two-seat MINI has been announced – and it promises electrifying performance!
Take a look at the brand new MINI E – the first electric model to come from the famous British marque.
Instead of rear seats, the MINI E is stacked with 5,088 cells of lithium-ion batteries which power an under-bonnet engine generating an impressive 201bhp and 220Nm of torque.
That means a 2.5 hour charge from a the mains gives the MINI E a range of 150 miles. What’s more, the 0-62mph sprint takes 8.5 seconds and the top speed is limited to 95mph.
Braking recharges the batteries too, while the air con and alternator work only when needed to save precious volts. And despite the fact it weighs 1,465kg – 330kg more than a standard MINI One – BMW reckons it’ll still be as sharp to drive thanks to recalibrated suspension and traction control.
The initial run of 500 cars – all sporting this grey and yellow get-up – are all earmarked for the USA, where they’ll be leased to specially-selected customers. They have to be looked after by specialist dealers too, with regular servicing required every 3,000 miles.
The cars are being built at MINI’s Plant Oxford, then shipped to Munich to get the electric system installed. The covers will be pulled off the new model at the LA Auto Show in November.
