New MX-5 special editions

New MX-5 special editions Mazda MX-5 Miyako adds a host of styling tweaks and improved steering response
As part of 20th anniversary celebrations of the Mazda MX-5, the Japanese firm have released two summer-themed special editions.Â
Known as the MX-5 Miyako, the newcomer takes its name from the idyllic Japanese holiday island of Miyako-jima and is available as a 1.8-litre soft-top model and a more powerful 2.0-litre roadster with a folding hard-top. Prices start at £18.385 for the former and £20,885 for the latter.
Inside, the new model benefits from a host of upgrades, including ‘Medici’ premium perforated black leather trim with red stitching, special badging, floor mats and automatic air-con.Â
Meanwhile, fog-lamps, 17-inch alloys and metallic paint differentiate the Miyako from a standard MX-5. Steering response has been improved by the addition of a front suspension strut brace.
The 1.8i 124bhp soft-top accelerates to 62mph in 9.9 seconds, while the 2.0-litre Miyako roadster coupe with its 157bhp engine is two seconds quicker. Combined mpg and CO2 emissions figures stand at 40.4/38.2mpg and 167/177g/km, respectively.
The new model goes on sale from July 1st, but only 500 examples of each will be coming to the UK.
