Daily Auto News New Nissan Cars Priced Around $10K

Nissan plans to expand its lineup with more affordable choices.
“Automotive News reports that Nissan’s chairman for the Americas, Carlos Tavares, has gone on record with reporters at the Detroit Auto Show saying that Nissan is planning a pair of vehicles that will start out around $10,000,” writes Autoblog. The vehicles will be built on Nissan’s new V platform.
The sub $10,000 price tag is welcomed in the U.S., where an economic recession has affected consumer’s abilities to buy new cars. It isn’t, however, unheard of. The 2010 Nissan Versa’s MSRP starts at $9,900 – but offers few convenience features.
Automobile Magazine explains: “We wouldn’t be surprised if either model largely resembles the base Versa (which stickers for $10,710, including destination), which sports manual windows, no air conditioning, and an optional radio.”
Nissan has yet to release names or details of the new vehicles. AutoGuide, however, reports that “[t]his new small car will be one of the first of its segment in North American, joining cars like the upcoming Chevy Spark and the Fiat 500 (although the 500 is likely to be priced much higher).”
