Daily Auto News Place Your Bets: Next Automaker to Recall
Daily Auto News

Earlier this year, Toyota faced a PR nightmare after it was forced to own up to issues of unintended acceleration in some of its best-selling vehicles by issuing a series of high-profile recalls. Since then, recalls that would once go unnoticed have been making headline after headline. While some, like yesterday’s GM recall of 1.5 million vehicles, are significant, others aren’t. All, however, have kept car owners on edge — hoping that their cars aren’t next on the recall list.
Now, thanks to YouWager.com, the anticipation no longer has to be bad. The site, which accepts bets on sporting events from horse races to the World Cup, has assembled odds on which automaker will be next to issue a recall. So why not make a few bucks by turning this recall mess into a game?
According to the oddmakers at YouWager.com, it’s most likely that Chevy will issue the next vehicle recall — which isn’t surprising given today’s news about an NHTSA investigation into the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe’s door handles. The second likeliest candidate is Jeep — which recently recalled certain model Wranglers and Compasses. Honda and Hyundai, however, are safe bets for not issuing a recall anytime soon. YouWager.com’s full odds are below.
Next car company to do a recall
Chevrolet 25% (+300)
Jeep 20% (+400)
Cadillac 19% (+450)
Toyota 19% (+450)
Mitsubishi 18% (+500)
Mercury 15% (+550)
Nissan 14% (+600)
Ford 13% (+650)
Honda 11% (+800)
Hyundai 9% (+1000)
[The +/- Indicates the Return on the Wager. For Example: Betting on the odd least likely to win would earn the most amount of money, should that happen. The percentage is the likelihood the odd will happen.]
