Daily Auto News Porsche Planning Electric Car
Daily Auto News

Perhaps we can officially say electricity has replaced gasoline when the most iconic sports cars can be plugged into an outlet. That day may not be far off.
Jalopnik reports, “Porsche’s fancy new President and CEO Michael Macht, speaking at the Frankfurt Motor Show, stated the performance brand is developing hybrid and electric powertrains for sports cars.”
We don’t expect a battery-powered Porsche in the immediate future. Motor Trend notes that Macht “went on to say that current battery technology is not “sufficient to meet Porsche’s strict requirements.” But the company is apparently trying to solve that. He added, “Our engineers are already working hard on this challenge.”
Autoblog adds, “Recent spy photos indicate that Porsche may already be well into the development phase of its electric 911 program, so this news doesn’t exactly come as a shock.” The German automaker has also announced plans to produce hybrid versions of its Cayenne SUV and Panamera sedan, “Probably in late 2010 as 2011 models.”
