Porsche Unveils Panamera S Hybrid

Who says you have to sacrifice performance to pay less at the pump? Certainly not Porsche. The automaker already has one hybrid in its model lineup, the Cayenne S Hybrid, and now it looks like a hybrid version of the Panamera will be hitting dealerships.
“Debuting later this year, Porsche will unveil its second production hybrid model, the Panamera S Hybrid, adding another chapter to its Porsche Intelligent Performance development philosophy,” says Porsche. “Without sacrificing sportiness or elegance, this new Panamera model produces 380 horsepower with fuel consumption of only 6.8 L/100 km on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).” For those of you who aren’t up on the metric system, that means that the new super luxury car will go 62 miles on 1.8-gallons of gasoline.
So what’s powering the Panamera Hybrid? Basically the same powerplant that’s in the hybrid version of the Cayenne. “The main propulsion is provided by a 3.0-liter V6 compressor engine delivering 333 horsepower, mated to a 47 horsepower electric motor,” writes Left Lane News. “Both machines are capable of powering the Panamera S Hybrid either alone or in combination.”
That power provides the Panamera S Hybrid with enough juice to get from 0-to-60 in 5.7 seconds, but when properly equipped, the Porsche sedan also gets impressive fuel economy. “Combined-cycle fuel consumption with the optional low-rolling-resistance tires from Michelin on the European cycle is put at 34.6 mpg,” says Autoweek. “That figure makes the Panamera S hybrid the most economical Porsche model ever.”
