Daily Auto News Recall Alert: Honda Expands Airbag Recall on Civic, Accord, Acura TL
Daily Auto News

Honda Motor Company has expanded an urgent airbag recall announced last month. The notice now applies to all 2001-02 Honda Accords, 2001 Honda Civics and 2002-03 Acura TL sedans. The recall is a critical safety issue, now affecting nearly half a million vehicles. Bloomberg reports, “The defect [has] resulted in one death in the U.S..
In a recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automaker explains: “In certain vehicles, the driver’s airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure. If an affected airbag deploys, the increased internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture. Metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material possibly causing injury to vehicle occupants.”
Dealers will replace the airbag inflator module free of change. Dealers have already begun contacting owners about the recall, but those who wish to make their own repair arrangements may visit the automaker’s dedicated recall websites: www.owners.honda.com/recalls for Honda owners, or www.owners.acura.com/recalls for Acura owners.
