Nissan is recalling 4,038 2010 Frontiers, Xterras and Pathfinders due to loose fasteners securing both the front passenger airbag and steering column. The affected vehicles were built between February 22, 2010 and March 13, 2010.
Truck Trend notes that the two fasteners are separate issues that lead different results.
As a result of the improperly secured fasteners, “In the event of a crash, the passenger front air bag deployment trajectory might be affected,” further explains Left Lane News. “The fasteners could possibly come out of the steering column positioning bracket increasing the risk of a crash.”
Nissan will replace or tighten all missing or loose fasteners free of charge. Owners can contact Nissan at 800-647-7261 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236.
