Seattle PD Using Twitter to Catch Car Thieves

You’re already following U.S. News Cars on Twitter to stay on top of the latest car buying news. Now, if you follow the Seattle Police department, you can stay on top of the latest car thefts.
“The Seattle Police Department has said it will start tweeting information about stolen vehicles, including year, make, model, paint color, body style and license plate number,” reports Kicking Tires.
The move comes after a rise in car thefts in the Grunge capital. “Seattle police say the average number of cars stolen per day in the city has risen from 8.46 last year to 9.9 this year, and more than 3,000 were stolen through October,” writes the Associated Press. “Employees at the 911 Seattle call center will tweet a car’s information after it is reported stolen.”
You can follow the Seattle program, @getyourcarback, on Twitter. A quick scan of the latest tweets show Seattle car thieves have a taste for domestics and Hondas. The latest tweets include “COLOR: WHITE YR: 2003 MAKE: FORD MODEL: F350 BODY: PU TRUCK LIC: A06428U ST: WA ***DO NOT MAKE CONTACT CALL 911***” from 14 hours ago, and “COLOR: RED YR: 1994 MAKE: HONDA MODEL: CIVIC COUPE BODY: 2DR LIC: 955SBC ST: WA ***DO NOT MAKE CONTACT CALL 911***” from December third.
As all of the tweets say, if you see a car fitting the description of the one in a tweet, do not engage the person driving it. As Kicking Tires says, the program “does not mean the police want Seattle residents to become Batman.” Instead, call the police and report the vehicle’s location.
