Auto news; Speed cams double up Latest speed camera can be removed and used as mobile unit
Two speed cameras for the price of one – that’s what traffic enforcement agencies get with this new gizmo. It’s the world’s first fixed and mobile unit.

Inside the housing is a traditional camera that can capture images of vehicles over three lanes of traffic. But when police want to shift it to another spot, they simply open the box and lift out the inner workings.

Officers can either attach it to a tripod or mount in a patrol car for pursuit situations. The system has been developed by German firm Vitronic using its existing PoliScan system. The first units have been sent to transport chiefs in Lithuania. There are no plans for use on UK roads yet, but police chiefs are sure to be interested as a way of keeping costs down.
