Suzuki’s Tokyo Show stars

Suzuki’s Tokyo Show stars Suzuki previews new eco-friendly small car concept, a range extender and a Renault Twizy-style city car
These three concepts will be the stars of the Suzuki stand at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month.Â
They’re lead by the Suzuki Regina – a vivid green small car which is said to show the company’s vision for an upcoming new compact hatch – while in addition there is the Swift EV Hybrid, which features a range-extending hybrid engine, and a two-seater city car called the Q-concept. Â Â
The Suzuki Regina weighs just 730kg and has a small-capacity petrol engine. As you can see it’s very aerodynamic, with semi-covered rear wheels, flush alloys and a sleek, almost Citroen-style shape  – Suzuki says it has a drag coefficient 10 per cent lower than conventional hatchbacks. As a result it reckons 88mpg and 70g/km of CO2 are possible.Â
The Swift EV Hybrid features an engine-driven generator, much like the Vauxhall Ampera, and Suzuki claims it can be driven for between 12 and 18 miles on electric power alone.Â
The next Suzuki Q-concept is a Renault Twizy-style electric tandem quadracycle. It is expected to be battery powered and is said to be ideal for journeys of less six miles.Â
Although it is only 2.5-metres long, it is very flexible – it can be configured with an adult seat in the front and a two-child rear seat or configured with a special rear storage area.Â
