Daily Auto News Toyota Recalls 2010 Lexus GX 460

Toyota announced yesterday that it is voluntarily recalling about 9,400 2010 Lexus GX 460 SUVs. Last week, Toyota put a sales halt on the 2010 GX after Consumer Reports issued a rare safety risk and “don’t buy” warning, citing safety tests in which the GX showed a high risk of rollover.

“During hard downhill braking, the traction control would allow the vehicle’s rear-end to step out much farther than normal,” explains Autoblog. “On a public road, CR says, that could lead to a rollover.”

As part of the recall, the Detroit Free Press says Toyota will “adjust software that will improve the reaction of a skid-prevention system.” According to Toyota’s press release, “Lexus is confident that the update will make the performance of the GX even better for our customers.”

Lexus dealers are expected to have the software update by the end of April and will implement it free of charge. Toyota will even provide a courtesy vehicle to anyone who owns a 2010 GX 460 and has concerns about driving it before the recall fix is in place.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is expected to post the recall by next week. In the meantime, customers may contact their local Lexus dealer or Lexus Customer Satisfaction at 1-800-25LEXUS or 1-800-255-3987.
