Toyota Recalls 22,000 Trucks and SUVs
The past year has been a bad one for Toyota, which has recalled more than 8.1 million vehicles for issues like floor mat entrapment and engine stall. The automaker’s most recent recall involves faulty tire pressure monitoring systems on 22,000 FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Sequoia, and Tundra models built between 2008 and 2011. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that the tire pressure monitoring systems were not properly calibrated. When a tire’s pressure drops below the minimum safe pressure, the alert light fails to turn on. There have been no reported injuries as a result of the faulty tire pressure monitoring systems, but driving on tires with unsafe air pressure levels could lead to tire failure, which increases the likelihood of a crash.
In their notice of Toyota’s recall, NHTSA reports, “Dealers will re-initialize the tire pressure monitoring system free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule.” To check whether your Toyota has been affected by this recall, you can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
