Texting While Driving Medium U.S. Drivers Admit to Bad Habits behind the Wheel

We’re all familiar with the inattentive driver who’s talking on the phone, eating, putting on makeup or fiddling with their iPod. However, what’s surprising is the number of people who’ll own up to their own bad driving habits.

In a survey conducted by Insurance.com, “Nearly 10 percent of Americans admit to driving without car insurance at some point in their lives – a decision that breaks the law in 49 out of 50 states. Meanwhile, about 9 percent of drivers confess to texting while driving, according to a recent survey conducted by Insurance.com of 1,496 drivers.”

But that’s not all. The survey also revealed that 30 percent of the group said that they talk on the cell phone while driving and more than 39 percent admit that they eat or drink while driving. “The good news is that most drivers are honest with insurance companies about their driving habits and history,” says the San Francisco Chronicle. “The bad news is what that honesty reveals about many drivers, and the danger their behaviors present to others with whom they share the road.”
